What are PETROCHEMICALS? Petrochemicals are manufactured from crude petroleum, one of the most common petrochemicals found in skin care products is petrolatum, also known as petroleum jelly.

Why should petroleum jelly be avoided?
  • It is listed as a probable human carcinogen by the European Union (EU).
  • It is banned in EU Cosmetics (unless very specific purification standards are met).
  • It is commonly contaminated with Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHS). PAHS are strongly linked to a wide variety of detrimental diseases.
  • It tends to interfere with the body's own natural moisturising mechanism, leading to dry skin and chapping.

will this paw paw ointment damage the natural fibres of the mcn? Do I need to use a liner on top of the cloth nappy, or can it be used directly on skin to nappy?

All barrier creams will affect the absorbency of cloth nappies. Using a liner helps to keep the cream off the absorbent fibres of the nappies, plus a 'strip wash' - wash in dishwashing detergent a couple of times a year can help to remove build up from barrier creams and increase the absorbency of your nappy. Basically all barrier creams will affect absorbency as they cream will coat the fibres of the nappy.
